in reply to: Alex Obregon – Dead to the World mix #4736
thanks a lot for the feedback. glad you enjoyed the midrange. as for the kick, most of what your hearing is the kick mic itself. i dont feel that lopsidedness you describe is really an issue, if anything (in my albeit biased opinion) i feel it adds to the feel of an actual human playing the song and not a robot triggering everything. you’re absolutely right in your criticisms with the toms tho. i dont feel they’re a particularly important element of the song, so instead of losing my sanity obsessing with making them sound super massive and whatever, i just made sure they do their job helping fills and transitions flow smoothly. the idea was too feel more than hear, ya know? maybe i only took that approach because i suck at mixing toms lol. in any case i really appreciate the feedback, and best of luck to you!
in reply to: Adam Muszynski – Dead to the World Contest Entry #4637toms sound really good. snare is a tad muddy. kick has a lot of of presence which works well in the double bass sections but gets a little too harsh on the single kick patterns. everything else sounds pretty solid! maybe i could use some more clarity in the vocals and guitars but other than that you have a solid mix here. good luck!
in reply to: Mick B. Hardt – Dead To The World Mix #4636mix sounds kinda cloudy and narrow- i can’t pinpoint exactly what elements are fighting eachother but there’s something of that sort going on. also not much of a stereo image; feels like the guitars are panned at 30L and 30R or 50 l&R or something like that. same with the rooms and overheads. keep at it tho!
in reply to: Henrik Sjöström – Dead To The World Mix #4630nice job on preserving the original drums. mix feels a bit harsh. i dig the liberal use of reverb, but i think its too much on the snare as it kinda drowns out the blastbeats. not a fan of that kinda untreated bass sound, sounds almost like farts. good mix overall tho, the elements come together nicely, which is the most important aspect of any mix. interesting how we’re in a similar situation as we’re both mixing on headphones (sennheiser hd 280 in my case) and took me a while to get the low end to feel right on systems with better bass response. best of luck to you man!
in reply to: Dražen Kecman – Dead To The World Mix Contest #4627very clean, modern mix. bass sounds like a more traditional bass tone which lends itself to a classic metal vibe. not a fan of the sample replacement, however that kick sound is sooo fucking sweet. would’ve been nice if you preserved more of the og drums, at least the snare and toms. vocals sound kinda weird, like as if there’s a weird eq going on. sounds cool tho, i could definitely hear that kind of effect on a record. overall, sonically this sounds fucking phenomenal, that being said i do kinda feel like you kill the vibe with all the sample replacements and editing. despite my complaints this is easily a top 3 entry. best of luck to you man!
in reply to: Bruno M Bassani – Dead To The World Mix/Remix #4624tight, dark and mean. i dig it. could use some more clarity perhaps, guitars do feel kinda muffled, especially when the vocals come in i feel they’re fighting for the same frequencies. turning them up might solve that, otherwise eq’ing so that they aren’t fighting for the same frequencies and making them a tad brighter would really help this mix truly shine. other than that, i really dig the vibe. best of luck!
in reply to: Eric Day – Dead to the World – Mix #4622drums and vocals are punchy and in your face. way too triggered for my personal taste, but thats just me of course. guitars feel pretty muffled and buried underneath the onslaught of drums and vocals, bringing up the guitas a little bit and eqing so that the vocals and drums aren’t fighting for the same frequencies could really elevate this mix. that being said, the intensity you bring to the mix really suits the song well and makes me feel insecure about mine lol. best of luck!
in reply to: Mike and Lisa Richardson – Dead to the World Mix #4599are you talking about my mix? if so thanks man im flattered. if not ignore this lol. also fun fact i also fucked up naming the mp3 lol. if enough people fuck up that part they might be somewhat forgiving about it, but i wouldn’t count on in unfortunately. lets hope im wrong and that they dont really care
in reply to: Ricardo Pleil – Dead To The World Mix #4593yeah man its kinda jarring
in reply to: Roy Wennekes – Dead To The World Mix #4582i like how we both had more or less a very similar intention and yet our mixes sound quite different. very much a raw mix, works well with the genre. guitars maybe a feel a bit buried, however. bringing out the highs around 1,7k and 6k will do the trick nicely. bass sounds true to the original but with added bite and presence with tasteful distortion. i especially like the darker kick sound, the drums in general are in your face and presence. could maybe used some parallel comp on the snare to make the snare cut through better, especially with the rimshots. well done my friend, best of luck!
in reply to: Mike and Lisa Richardson – Dead to the World Mix #4561i respect the hell out of that 🫡
in reply to: Mike and Lisa Richardson – Dead to the World Mix #4556holy shit the compression is strong with this one. this sounds like you left your global saturation bus soloed when you rendered it. i actually really like the kick sound on this tho, wish the overall mix wasnt compressed and saturated to hell
in reply to: Kepler Engelbrecht – Dead to the World mix #4553vocals feel a bit muffled and buried under the guitars and drums. i respect the dry approach to the bass and staying true to the original tone. drums are probably the best part of the mix, they sound full and in your face, perhaps they could blend a bit better with the rest of the instrumentation. very loose with the gate on the snare i see, i prefer relying on the overheads as to give more of a stereo image than the bleed from the snare mic in mono, but it does add to the atmosphere of chaos and intensity of the track and works well with the song itself. toms sound full and rich as well. guitars are a bit on the muddier side perhaps, but really no criticism there either.
solid job, best of luck to you! go ahead and roast mine while you’re at it lol
in reply to: Michał Bigulak – Dead To The World #4532i find the vocals and guitars are competing for the same frequencies so when the vocals are happening it drowns put the guitars. other than that, i really like the particular shade of brutalness you brought to the song. check out my mix if you’d like :) best of luck to you.
in reply to: Alex Obregon – Dead to the World mix #4529took me a while to get it to hit right lol. thanks :) what do you think of the mix itself?
