Out of your comfortzone but doing a great job really :)
The only thing that bothers me a little is how wet the snare is, but other than that I liked listening, quite a lot.

As for loudness, everyone does it differently I think but since these tracks are going to YT and such, I just aim for 13 LUFS about and -2db peak which makes my mix a lot less loud than most, but they’ll end up being normalized at around that number anyways.

I’m never really sure what is better, go for louder and have it turned down or aim at what most people will end up hearing it at.

On my first attempt I did try and midi the kick, but I gave up on that idea and just used the original tracks, beefing them up a little with a subkick

The amount of mixes entered into this contest is insane! I love listening to them though, so many differences! The kick is pretty clicky indeed, which is fine, but if it’s clicky it could be a little lower in the mix, no way of missing it.

I have no idea what the original mix sounds like, was that posted somewhere? Or just the few snippets from Warren’s video?

The energy of your mix is amazing though, I’m listening while I’m typing this :)

It’s funny how every mix I listen to makes me second guess choices I made with mine haha

The overheads aren’t crushed too much for me, the kicksample is nice, a little machinegunny starting at 2:30 abouts. Didn’t really notice it before that mark.
You definitely had fun with this and I was struggling to find ways to keep the energy up and interesting, adding those little orchestra and synth effects did work :)

Nice work on those kicks, those are just the original tracks, aren’t they? Well done! Love the low tuned snare as well.

Panning the bass to the left is an interesting choice, it made me check my headphone plug :)

Have to agree with what others said, love the bass and toms and those kicks are nice and tight as well. To be honest, I didn’t listen to any other mixes when doing mine, but loving what I’m hearing!

Nice work on those drums! Love the tom rolls, I spent quite a bit on time on those as well but these are amazing. I did miss out on a snare hit in between, hearing it so clearly in yours :)

Love the way that bass sounds and sits in the mix, love that snare too!

You made the kicks sound pretty massive! I used them as well, but gave them a little help with a subkick. The snare is a little wet for my taste, they usually are pretty dry but I enjoyed listening :)

Job well done for a first go! Sounds like you were having fun making it which is super important! The kick is very loud, very old school death metal had prominent kicks but they were tuned like low tuned snares :)

Wow, very creative use of the tracks for a remix that’s totally a different kind of genre, love it!

Thanks a bunch! Just about an hour after posting my submission to the contest I found a video Warren did about EQ I think, and the trick he uses to blend the DI and amp bass tracks by using the lowend from the DI, which is way tighter and the reason I wanted it in, and a high pass on the amp one… I just tried that and yes, that will give less of a mess at the 200-400hz…

    I’m learning a lot :)

I love the old school vibe of this, that kick is totally working this way, gives a very Crystal Mountain feel.
