Hi everyone and best wishes for 2023!

This was a lot of fun to do! I got hooked on Produce Like A Pro videos during the holidays and noticed the contest so decided to give it a go. The band sounds like they were having a blast recording this. I kept the drums as they were with some small fixes and automation but beefed up the kick with a subkick tucked underneath.

Anyways, looking forward to your comments and good luck to everyone!

I loove that intro, sets the mood, great job!
Mix sounds stellar as well! Bassguitar sounds a bit prominent and little farty in the 200-400hz lowmid region.

    Good luck! \m/

Thanks a bunch! Just about an hour after posting my submission to the contest I found a video Warren did about EQ I think, and the trick he uses to blend the DI and amp bass tracks by using the lowend from the DI, which is way tighter and the reason I wanted it in, and a high pass on the amp one… I just tried that and yes, that will give less of a mess at the 200-400hz…

    I’m learning a lot :)

The intro is definitely a nice touch, the mix sounds really good with every element sounding clear and well defined. Drums are good and punchy. I do agree about it being too bass heavy. I’d probably try to attack that myself by putting a multiband compressor on the problematic region of bass frequencies, either on the bass tracks or even on the master, then messing with settings to see if that helps. Overall, pretty sweet though

Thanks a bunch! The bass getting out of control every so often is something I cannot unhear now haha, thanks for the tips. Yeah, a multiband compressor would have worked as well, but I just did a quick try using Warren’s trick (using the DI for the lows, basically cutting everything above 200hz or so, and highpassing the amp) and that tidies it up ever so much.

I think it sounds awesome. I would have used less verb on the vocals but great work overall. The guitars are massive.

    Cheers!

Nice touch with the intro! Loved it. I really like the darkness in the mix. I’m happy to hear a powerful bass.
