in reply to: Yogos.w – Dead To The World Mix #10912
This mix reminds me of some old school Morbid Angel…Covenant era. It does lack some brightness which makes it sound a little woofy in the low-end. The kick level is where it should be for my tastes anyway. Perhaps a little more work on the fills would be more impactful on the fills and transitions. Overall though you retained that original vibe of this era. If you got a minute to spare check out my mix here, always looking for feedback.
in reply to: Mike Tate – Dead to the World – Mix #10911Nice mix. Very clean sounding, and retains the OG vibes. Best of luck! If you got a minute to spare check out my mix here, always looking for feedback.
in reply to: Michael Nakabayashi – Dead to the World MIX #10908Nice mix, very crispy! Very aggressive. Snare verb/saturation maybe a hair on the distracting side in spots. But overall pretty slamming! If you got a minute to spare check out my mix here, always looking for feedback.
in reply to: Nicolas BOURDUCHE – Dead To The World mix #10907Nice clear and tight mix. Retains total 90’s vibe for sure. Congrats! If you got a minute to spare check out my mix here, always looking for feedback.
in reply to: Jens Bsdok – Dead To The World – Mix #10906The slow down is pretty wicked. I like the darker, doomy vibe. Maybe mix is a tad on the darker side, asin highs rolled off a little. Cool take on the track. If you got a minute to spare check out my mix here, always looking for feedback.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10904Damn more 90’s than 90’s on the kick lmao. Mission accomplished. All joking aside i was struggling with trying to get the entire mix working together, back and forth with more organic drums, then i felt they got buried, so then i went the other route and processed the shit out of them…perhaps too far. I don’t know why but i had Deicide, Once Upon The Cross album mentally in my head as a reference. Thanks for the listen.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10900Thank you so much. I was trying to make the entire mix slamming and brutal. Appreciate the feedback, let me know on the low end. Always love to hear that type of feedback.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10897Yeah i was going to automate those toms and drop them down a tad…i went back and forth…then i said f it lol. Let that phat bottom go. Thanks for listening, i appreciate it.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10895I have been a guitarist for many many years. It was my first instrument i learned before picking up the drums long long ago. Perhaps some of that has seeped through here subconsciously, although oddly in my own productions people tend to think i am more drum-centric. Thanks for the comments!
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10890I actually have the rooms panned hard left and right and the overheads only slightly inward. Perhaps with the guitars more forward and also i put a little stereo widening on them it is creating the feeling that the rooms and overheads are more centered. Appreciate the comments especially regarding the vocals burying the cymbals a tad…will keep an ear out for that next time. Always good to have another perspective and set of ears on things. Thanks!
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10883Thank you! Much appreciated.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10882Damn dude!!!!!! Thank you so much. I appreciate the comments so much, i worked hard on this mix to try and retain some integrity of the original, but make it a bit more modern. Can really feel the Dying Fetus comments for sure! I love the cranked snare on those early/mid 2000’s records. Thanks so much for the kind words.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10879The level of fuckery i went through on these drums was something else, it was a convoluted process for sure. Sorry for the long post here, but this is what i did. I went through and stripped all noise from all shells on the original tracks. I multisampled the original hits the best i could. Created my own samples (.TCI Files) from the original drums here, but i pre-processed them heavily. I then created midi from the original drum files so i could more easily move around the kicks and hits that were a little all over the place timing wise throughout. Then i used Slate trigger to retrigger the performace using the original drum samples i created from the track. I tuned the snare up, quite a bit, and used some augmentation with samples from my own person drumkit to give a little more beefiness to the toms, and kick. Good ear!
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10874Thanks man! I was really struggling with the bass level, and getting it to sit just how i wanted. I would think i had it then listen back and go, no too loud or too not loud enough. Probably just needed to take a moment and rest the ears.
in reply to: Shaun Schwanke- Dead To the World Mix/Remix #10872Thank you, i greatly appreciate it. This was exactly what i was trying to achieve. Retain that oldschool vibe as much as possible whilst bringing it into a little more modern times.
