Did you use samples on snare and toms (and maybe kick also) ?

I like the original vibe of the mix but i also dig your version (especially that cranked snare), which reminds me of “stop at nothing” by Dying Fetus.

In hindsight this mix might be one of my favourites i’ve heard so far.
You made it sound like this was recorded/mixed in the early/mid 2000’s on Unique Leader Records, like that band BEHEADED from Malta and “stop at nothing” from DYING FETUS.
This is a fresh new take on the original.

Great mix. Everything is really nicely balanced and stylistically spot on.

Nice mix Shaun! I like the way you have brought the guitars forward. It sounds like you have placed the overhead/room mics dead center (which is a cool way to make the mix sound bigger) but I would have liked it if they were panned a little as the vocals overpower them a bit. Good luck dude!

Thank you, i greatly appreciate it. This was exactly what i was trying to achieve. Retain that oldschool vibe as much as possible whilst bringing it into a little more modern times.

Thanks man! I was really struggling with the bass level, and getting it to sit just how i wanted. I would think i had it then listen back and go, no too loud or too not loud enough. Probably just needed to take a moment and rest the ears.

The level of fuckery i went through on these drums was something else, it was a convoluted process for sure. Sorry for the long post here, but this is what i did. I went through and stripped all noise from all shells on the original tracks. I multisampled the original hits the best i could. Created my own samples (.TCI Files) from the original drums here, but i pre-processed them heavily. I then created midi from the original drum files so i could more easily move around the kicks and hits that were a little all over the place timing wise throughout. Then i used Slate trigger to retrigger the performace using the original drum samples i created from the track. I tuned the snare up, quite a bit, and used some augmentation with samples from my own person drumkit to give a little more beefiness to the toms, and kick. Good ear!

Damn dude!!!!!! Thank you so much. I appreciate the comments so much, i worked hard on this mix to try and retain some integrity of the original, but make it a bit more modern. Can really feel the Dying Fetus comments for sure! I love the cranked snare on those early/mid 2000’s records. Thanks so much for the kind words.
