Crazy what you achieved with the drums without using any samples!! Gnarliest bass tone I’ve heard from the mixes so far as well. Brutal vocals…This has everything you’d want in a winning mix! Killer job!!

@whoosh71 The clickiness of the kick seems to be a common theme with my mix. I was going for metal but maybe a little TOO metal haha

But yeah, I just typed the song in on Spotify and was able to find the real version there. I used that as my reference as I figured the band would want something that sounds similar to that. A lot of my decisions were based on what the final song sounded like.

And like you, I too find myself second guessing what I did. It’s enough to drive me up a wall! haha

To combat that, I’m trying to not compare my mix to anyone else. Instead, I’m asking myself questions based around control. Can I control the outcome or did my mix all happen by chance? Control is what I’m striving for and with my mix, I’m happy to say that it’s how I would like to hear the song and I’d be ale to replicate the result. Having that command over my decision making makes me very happy and helps me not get down on myself when I hear other amazing mixes–mixes like yours!

I appreciate you taking the time to check out what I came up with and write such a nice comment. Best of luck to you!!

@Lpino Great point. I’ll think more carefully about how clear the snare is in my mixes moving forward. Thanks for taking the time to check out my mix and providing some valuable feedback

You’ve got a great ear Adam and thanks for the kind words! I definitely can see where you’re coming from with the clickiness of the kick. It would make a lot of sense to go back and maybe dial that in a bit more if I had the opportunity. Cymbals are definitely on the brighter side. Maybe a bad move but I did that on purpose.

I don’t know about you, but the struggle I had with this mix was making it modern while still trying to pay homage to the original mix that the band decided on. One of the things I noticed in the original mix was how bright the cymbals were. That was something that was probably very deliberate and genre specific so I wanted to make sure I accentuated that while still keeping it tame.

It may bite me in the butt though because I agree: they are quite bright/harsh

But dude, you’re a legend. Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply–especially from a great mixer like yourself!!

Love a mix where the drums are really at the forefront and yours does just that. The distant vocals are really refreshing to hear too–such a unique take on the song. Love this!!

Love the depth of the kick. No idea how you even achieved that. Much to be proud of here Scott. Little things like the swell into the big section…absolutely love it!!

The vocal is BRUTAL in the best possible way. Love the effects you threw in there during moments of silence. FANTASTIC!

Love how tight and contained your mix is Adam. There’s nothing going out of control. I absolutely love it. Definitely feeling the traditional old school style you went for.
