in reply to: Jason Maxfield – Dead to the World Mix #4809
I did a remix of this. To be clear, I’m not trying to submit this as a replacement. Just an alternative mix I did that I thought people would like to hear. I did a bit of tweaking, and the main thing was adding a distortion pedal to the bass guitar to give it some filthy grit and guttural tone to it. I think it’s a better mix, but I think my original mix is more ‘era’ correct than this one. It’s all to taste though and I like what I did on this one too.
in reply to: Jason Maxfield – Dead to the World Mix #4806It might have gotten a bit lost in the heavy parts of the song. Probably overall compression when I mastered it. I’m still working on that. Mastering was not required of this, but I always like to polish my mixes and its good practice. Mastering is a whole other level after mixing and I like to learn all I can.
in reply to: Jason Maxfield – Dead to the World Mix #4805Thanks, it is basically left alone other than slight eq and compression. I dug out a lot of 350 in the drums and boosted the bass in that range slightly. It sounded like the original mix when I did that, so I stuck with it.
in reply to: Jason Maxfield – Dead to the World Mix #4804I remember metal back in the day and I wanted to keep that same vibe with the mix. I’m glad you think I nailed it!
in reply to: Jason Maxfield – Dead to the World Mix #4803I basically left the Bass tone alone and just made a few EQ tweaks with a bit of compression. I did pretty minimal stuff with the guitars as well. The drums were the hardest to deal with. I didn’t like the sound of them at all, but tried to make them work without replacing anything with samples!
in reply to: Cody Leavitt – Dead To The World – Mix #4004I dig this mix. That bass guitar is filthy. I like the vocal delays and the guitar stuff you did to mix things up. Good luck, I think you’ll end up near the top of the heap with this mix!
