I made lots of automations: every tom hit has been isolted through automation, in order to mute properly and naturally toms’ tracks when toms don’t play. About kicks, I used the MFreeForm eq to tone match the 2 acoustic kicks with a preset of mine that make matching sounds natural and without artifacts. As gentle gate, I used the MaxxVolume from Waves (NOT the mv2) on snare and acoustic kicks. Then SSL 4K and NLS (Waves Both of them) on EVERY single track in this tune to get THD and gluing (I use to work 96kHz because of aliasing; I can do that because I use Audiogridder that makes me able to set a second pc workststion as DSP and my main MacBook pro early 2013 as ProTools runner and a few piece of plugin if I need some extras. No UAD, no hardware)
