in reply to: Atte Alanen – Dead To The World Mix #7200My entry to the “Dead To The World” mixing competition, enjoy!
First of all, that musicianship is effing tight!
I loved the snare sound and wanted to over-exaggerate the high-pitch ring to make it even more punishing for the blast beats. I nudged the bass drum click sample 5ms earlier to match the transient in the actual bass drum and layered the kick tracks. I used all the original drum tracks including the room and there is no additional sampling. That drummer is a beast!
That bass is filthy! I wanted to make it roar and clunk to the max to cut through the guitars, so I used the DI track to drive the bottom and the amp track to give it the color. The guitar sound was already so good that it was enough to just give it a bit of EQ to sit with the bass and to make the palm mutes oomph, and just a tiny bit of other processing.
What a vocalist, super versatile! I wanted the vocals to cut through the mix and the backing vocals to support and give a bit of a width, so theres a bit of stereo processing there.
All in all, I really enjoyed this track, and I hope you like my mix! I am very open to any feedback, good or critical, and always learning more :)
