I agree, the quality of the tracks makes a huge difference. With a bit of EQ, panning and level adjustments it was already almost there!
I like what you’ve done with the roominess of the drums. Overall mix sounds good. The only thing I’d adjust is the little bit of mud in the lead vocal.
If you get chance can you leave some feedback on my mix please. I added a guitar solo, a few BV’s and edited the drums here and there – gone for a heavier, more rocky mix.

You are right about You tube. It had knocked the track level down a lot.
I was originally going to just do a mix and keep it true to the original vibe, but I got the urge to make it a bit heavier. I listen to a lot of music that’s heavily compressed (Modern heavy rock and metal), so I tend to levitate in that direction.
Here’s a link to same mix, just on Sound cloud. Hopefully the levels will be better on this platform.
