Good job, Stephen! Two things that caught my attention:

    – I hear a bit of pumping. Maybe the kick drum is triggering the mixbus compressor is a little too much;
    – I think you put too much de-essing on the vocals. You can hear it on the first verse. The de-esser is ducking the vocal when there’s sibilance.

Overall I think this is a good sounding mix! Thanks!

Hey, Rob! Man, I loved your solo section! Great energy going on.

I only felt like the kick was pumping a bit. Maybe you were a little too heavy with the compression? And there are also sections where I’d have turned down the cymbals just a touch.

But that’s for my taste. Great job!

I also have my version here! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Thanks for the kind words! I often find myself with my snare louder than my vocals lol!

Hey Marco! Thanks for submitting your mix! I’d like to point out a few things.

The mix sounds a bit too compressed to my taste. The kick is louder than the rest of the kit which makes it feel a little unbalanced. Actually, I thing your mix needs a bit more balancing overall. To me, all the elements are fighting for space .

Nice guitar skills! I liked the lower octave double at the end of the solo.

    Keep it up, man!

Hey Josh! Nice job. I like your ideia of having I believe a 1/8 note delay on the lead vocal in the verse. But I wish I could notice the vocal first and then the delay. Right now, the delay catches my attention quicker. Maybe if you’d turn up the vocals by a few dbs, that problem could be solved.

The mix sounds nice! I like the attack on the snare, the balance of the overheads, the instruments. Maybe the lap steel could be more upfront in the solo section.

The only thing to me is the vocal to low in the mix.

I have my version here too. I’d appreciate to hear your thoughts on it. Good luck!

Great job! I’d only turn the bass down a bit. I feel like the lows are triggering the compressor and it’s making the mix sound soft. But that’s the only thing I would point out. Good luck!

Hey Levy! Thanks for submitting your work! The mix sounds a little too bright to my taste. But that’s on me! Also I’d have cut that noise in the first few seconds of the track. Good luck!

Hey Tedd! SausageHead is spot on. To me, it’s sounding like if you’d take a multi mono plugin and inverted the phase in one of the sides. It seems like we’re only listening to the side information of your mix.

Too many stereo widening plugins are not very healthy for your mix. Try to eliminate those and focus on creating the stereo image with frequency balance and front-to-back placement. I’d suggest you watching “The Art of Mixing”, on YouTube. It’s a pretty old video but it’s amazing!

To answer your question, my monitoring system is a pair of Yamaha NS10’s + a vintage AKG240. Also I always make sure to check my mixes on my cheap gym headphones. I don’t have a professional treated room either. The panels and treatment I have, I built on my own but it seems to work. That’s why I check my mixes on many systems.

Since you mentioned you’re pretty new to mixing, I’d suggest keeping it simple. Don’t overcomplicate things such as parallel compression/ parallel eq, stereo widening, mid/side processing. You probably still have to understand the basics. I’ve been mixing since 2018 and I can tell you that you can go a LONG way by just using the faders.

I also uploaded my mix here on the forum. If you have time, please take a listen and let me know what you think! Keep it up, man!
