Though I’ve been producing for quite some time, a lot of the mixing and mastering techniques used here were learned attending the Fix-the-Mix Challenges hosted over at mastering.com.

Nice! I like the guitar parts you added. Glad to hear that banjo midrange trimmed down here. Only thing I didn’t like about the original. Only issue is the high frequency range. Sounds like that got out of control. This happens to me all the time. Mixing for too long, the high frequencies start creeping up.
I’ve gotten better-ish about this by always checking references. However, my secret weapon is the CLA Nx plugin (w/ CLA-10 setting) when checking references. Any resonances, woofiness or general imbalances are greatly exaggerated. So, even if your track SOUNDS like your reference, it won’t with the Nx if anything is out of balance.

Oh, that is cool! I had a blast mixing this track but it’s work like this that’s making it every bit as fun just listening to the other entries. Had me from beginning to end.
