Wow, really solid in this demanding remix idea and performances! You couldn’t have made this much better

Many thanks for your comment kickmaestro – I’m happy I got the feel I intended, but as always we are our own worst critic aren’t we. I would like to have submitted a better mix, particularly in the low end.
Good luck and thanks again :-)

Reply to reply to reply: indeed. I’ve revisioned my remix 5 times. 1st was mainly stupid automation mistake of not loud enough vocals on first refrain, but was overall too time crunched and just lacked optimal processing. Do you know If we’re allowed to submit a revision here? It’s only double submissions via e-mail that can disqualify, isn’t it?

And you can check mine (gritty and bitter (opposite of yours hehe) heavy rock with slightly bluesier flavoured country on top) if you want, I was among the last minute uploaders were we got very little replies (zero)

Love this take on the song! Some killer playing and an overall great vibe.

That said, for me, it falls apart a bit with the chorus–not because of you or your playing–but because the chorus is so modern country/pop that it sounds at odds with your bluegrass/traditional country approach. The verses, however, really work seamlessly. I wonder if stripping down the chorus, making it almost acapella, would help. This would also give listeners a break from the beat, which is great but perhaps too repetitive. Just my two cents, anyway.

As far as the mix goes, it sounds very good, but I wonder if it is too balanced. (I’ve listened several times on good headphone but not on my monitors, so take this all with a grain of salt.) I’m not sure I hear a real focal point. The verse vocals are bit too quite, I think, and a lot of the instrumentation sounds more or less equal, whereas I want mix decisions to direct my attention to whatever is most important.

Thanks for sharing this! You really went the extra mile, and it paid off!

Many thanks for the constructive feedback Gray. It’s just what I need. I agree re the beat being too repetitive – I tried different approaches but every time I broke the drums up more, I couldn’t get it to sound right
Helpful comments re the balance – I will work on that for sure.
Overall, I was happy with the feel and learned loads putting it together, but I am not too happy with the final sound. I am working in a very small untreated room at the moment and I have all sorts of translation problems, particularly low end. Many thanks again….much appreciated:-)
