    Hey everybody, I’m nico, producer/engineer out of Texas.
    Here’s is my submission to the Malamore – Dead to The World Mix Contest 2022

    As soon as I saw this contest get listed I had to jump on it immediately! I cracked open the files that first week and December and been chipping at the project ever since; all the way to the literal last minute, submitting my mix at 11:59pm CT

    I hope you all enjoy my mix, as this contest is super meaningful to me. I was raised on the late 90’s era of New York Death Metal as 10/11 year old kid in rural Texas. Dying Fetus & Suffocation were my first Death Metal concert back in the day so its really cool to work on a session with actual Frank Mullen Vocals! so sick. I live for the brutality and riffage of NYDM Bands like Malamore, Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, Pyrexia, and its always been my personal goal as an engineer to bring this vibe back to a modern production arena. No better way than to do that than this contest! Thank you Kohle & Warren for setting this one up!

    @nicodemus : what is your listening environment like ?
    Your kick is like dance/Vader crazy kind of kick, but boosted +6dB of what it should be :)
    Did you compare your mix vs reference mixes just to see if you were in the ballpark ?
    I wish that kick was a bit less empowering.
    Cool stuff otherwise !

    @djabthrash Thanks for noticing! I’m in a fully treated room with floating floors and ceiling clouds!
    The decisions on the kick drum were definitely intentional. Wanted to take a more modern approach with a more bombastic, pummeling bass sound. I like to recreate the feeling of standing in front of the subs at a really loud concert, getting absolutely wrecked by bass. I just like the way it feels. The Dance music comparison is appropriate.
