Hi all, this version aims to really elevate the vocal as the hero, with fairly traditional accompaniment sitting beneath. Stylistically, gently nodding to modern country and possibly even the faintest hint of Evanescence in the last chorus?

Anyway, it’s been several decades since I mixed a track, having been lost to a completely unrelated corporate career. This was a great song to begin re-learning music production (and catching up on all that is now possible, thanks to YouTube). It’s a toe in the water, but not a very confident one.

For those interested, my home studio is really simple: a MacBook Air M1 running Logic, a pair of Yamaha HS5s and the early silver Apollo Twin/Satellite. Keys input from a Arturia KeyLab 88 and I have been using a second hand MCUPRO control surface to try and be tactile like the old days!

Looking forward to learning more through this community.

SO… the production bug has got you back in hey! haha Nice mix overall Paul, considering you left it for a while. Great to hear you made the vocals the star of the show, works super well in this arrangement. Congrats!

Thanks @GonzoDriver. Yes, that dormant bug bite has resurfaced it seems. They should definitely have a warning sign though, for just how slippery that plug-ins slope is!

Lovely mix! Leaves plenty of space for the vocal and the mid-section is really nice too. 👍😊
If you have time I’d appreciate some feedback on my production.
    All the best,
    Mark

Nicely done! I especially like the openness of it so that the vocals really come across.

Wow…love the flat top lines in this mix. Very atmospheric feel. Solid mix, very open and warm. So many good versions coming now that the contest is ending soon. Best of luck with it!
