This is probably too late but here is my mix anyway!! This one was fun – no samples only the original tracks were used.
Soundcloud killed my first attempt at linking this. Let’s hope this dropbox link works!!
Jim
@jpallister : i recommend you also post it on Youtube.
Some things about your mix :
– bass sounded too “DI’ and also too loud
– your mix sounds very muffled and dirty/distorted in the lows/low mids. Sounds like a 2 bus / mastering chain issue
– your drums sound like a lot of room and oh but not enough direct/attacky/punchy direct sound from the shell close mics
Did you A/B it against reference mixes ?
I agree with jpallister unfortunately. I didn’t mail it with my mix either but I could definitely use more clarity and punch in this mix to engage with the track more.
Thanks for the feedback!
I’m a bass player – so I am a bit biased there!
I thought it ended up a bit muddy as well compared to the other mixes I’ve listened to. I thought the original track was way too bright for my taste. Some of the mixes I listened to dropped most of the room/overheads out but the original track had massive cymbals sounds, so I tried to balance between that.
It’s so cool, hearing all the different ways people have interpreted this song. That metal sounds means so many different things to people.
Thanks again for the feedback!
Jim
@jpallister : gotcha ! The original mix was way too bright indeed :)
