Hi folks!
Firstly, Warren, Kohle and the Produce Like a Pro Team – can I just say what an AWESOME competition it is that you have put together! Just look at the number of entries here! (this post will probably end up going unnoticed because of the sheer number of posts, but I’ll add my 2 cents anyway and keep my fingers crossed). Just goes to show how much people are keen on some REAL performances instead of all the midi and sampled stuff that we hear nowadays. So, a massive thank you – I really enjoyed mixing this one.
Here is my humble entry for the competition. And perfect timing as well – I picked up the new SSL Bus+ compressor just last week, and this was the perfect way to test it out. I tried really hard to keep close to the spirit of the original, while striving to keep up to modern mixing standards. If anyone has any questions about the mix, feel free to ask and I’ll try my best to respond quickly.
Good luck, everyone!
Really well balanced, eq and volume wise! Kick could have more lowend, tough. But sounds very professional none the less.
Cheers! Appreciate you checking out my mix and commenting :)
Great mix, very well balanced, congrats!
Nice work! Very tight and professional. Especially the drums are super clean compared to the source material
Thank you very much. Yeah, drums took up the majority of the time. The original drums had plenty of volume and velocity inconsistencies (which was expected of the old school death metal sound with minimal studio trickery, of course) but I wanted to make them really punchy and snappy, and tried to make sure all the hits are audible.
