    Hi folks, here’s my mix submission for the competition. Metal isn’t a genre I’ve worked with before but I really enjoyed this. I actually think it’s the best mix I’ve done so far but would appreciate any pointers. – Daz

    Damn good effort for a first try at metal. I would say what matters is that it sounds good to you. As you can hear, everybody has brought their own flavor to the mix, and it being an artistic endeavour, there aren’t really “wrong choices”, perhaps more or less popular ones. But what do I know, I’m just a guy who likes playing and mixing metal in my bedroom. Best of luck!

    Hey man,

    Very energetic with the high end; I’d say that the bass is definitely 3-5dB louder than anything else in the mix right now so it’s hard to hear everything else. The bass sounds killer; the non-mastered version on the page sounded more balanced to me. But hey, if my mixes sounded like this for “first mix” when I started mixing metal, I’d be very happy with myself, haha.

    I appreciate that. I did wonder about the bass but it seemed to translate well over to my “car test”. I’ll keep an ear on that for future mixes. Cheers.

    Yeah, it seems to have really popped out when I mastered it. I’m no mastering engineer so I just gave it my best shot. I think the extra compression and limiting really made the bass jump up. Maybe I should have adjusted with some EQ accordingly. As a previous comment mentioned, I think the unmastered version has a better balance.
