Changed BPM to 112 for a more “chill” vibe
Kept: Vocals, Slide, Banjo, Organ, EG1
Rewrote everything else using various bits Tropical House instrumentation

The YouTube video is a movie of the Logic Pro project tracks if you’re interested in the arrangement.

Also kept the Kick sample only to use in the remix. Didn’t actually keep any other drums from the original tracks but used other samples for all the percussion. All of the other instruments use Native Instruments plugins, including Massive X, Kontakt, etc., except for the claps, which use a plugin called El Clapo.

The downsampling feels unclean right off the bat…
Would suggest to up the tempo just enough to get rid of the vocal artefacts.

Fidelity of the backing track needs to be steered up a tad.

    Great idea!
    Keep pushing them knobs!

Thanks for the comments. Agreed that there are some artifacts with changing the tempo on the vocals, but I accepted them to get the “tropical house” feel. The backing track is all basically various synths (except for sampled drums – which are triggers in NI Battery), so couldn’t really change the fidelity of them. It is a pretty sparse and open arrangement, but again, that was a stylistic choice for this particular thing.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. It was pretty fun to work on, and it’s been cool to see all the different interpretations of the song on here.
    Cheers.

Thanks again for the comments. Like probably everyone on here, there are some things that I would go back and fix as you mentioned. To be honest, it was a little rushed. I turned it in literally 5 minutes before the deadline. I’d worked on it 2-1/2 hours that night and 2-3 hours the night before – including writing all the instrumentation, rearranging things, mixing, mastering, etc. My “real” job is an orthopedic surgeon so I only squeeze in music here and there when I can, and in this case, I started everything the day before the deadline. It was still fun.

@G-Doggy – Thanks. Glad you liked it. Fun to play around with it and change genres. Also fun to see all the different things people did in their remixes with the same original tracks. It means the song itself has good “bones”. Would sound good with just an acoustic guitar and vocals.

@thetransposedheads Interestingly, the background “vocal tunes” are literally just the BG1 and BG2 from the original tracks. I didn’t actually tune anything, but just turned them up in the mix. In the “topical vibe” I was going for, the harmonies sounded cool and fit the mix well. And they were obviously amazingly well sung and produced already. While I did put some mild effects on the Lead vocals (delay, reverb, etc) to fit the vibe, the Background vocals are literally dry and only panned 10:00 and 2:00. I did nothing else to them – shows how well they were done.
