Had a lot of fun mixing this! I’d like to hear your opinion on this: what makes this song, this production so great and how did the quality of the recordings affect your mixing process?
Nice dynamics, well-balanced mix, good choice of delays/room. The rythm-guitar in the intro sounds slightly harsh, but that’s just a question of taste. Good job!
To your question: The quality of the recordings made mixing really easy, as I said in my 1st posting: “It just felt like “pushing up the faders” and off-we-go!” ;-)Good luck to you.
Like it Stefan, overall a nice mix. It did feel a little cramped to me (mono) for the verses but I think you were using that to make the chorus bigger when you opened things out? Probably just a personal preference thing – good luck anyway!
Not bad. May main concern is the power given the Banjo, especially in the out where it dominates the hook of the phrase, and when gone releases the buss compression for the rest of the ensemble.
Hey, thanks for your reply. You guessed correctly; I made the verses narrower to give more pop to the choruses. In hindsight I do think I should have made the whole mix a tiny bit wider.

Hi McSnert, thanks for you reply, you have a keen ear. In the last hook I decided to highlight a different side of the ‘story’ by favouring the banjo. This also gives it more of an ‘outro’ vibe.
Thanks for your reply Rentaroot! I did take a bit if a risk with that intro rhythm guitar didn’t I.
